Aspiring chefs competed for the chance to win their own restaurant in London's prestigious Langham hotel. The winner, Chef Dom Taylor, combined his passion for Caribbean cuisine, classical training, and industry experience to create The Good Front Room. Chef Dom's culinary style is a blend of his Caribbean heritage, influenced by his Saint Lucian father and Jamaican mother, and his London upbringing. He reimagines classic dishes with a familiar twist. The restaurant's success exceeded expectations, leading to an extension of the initial three-month residency. The project began with the story of Myrtle, Chef Dom's great aunt, who lived in a house filled with trinkets and keepsakes, a magical playground for children to explore. However, one room was sacred, its entrance forbidden, always immaculately prepared to receive ‘very special guests’ – The Good Front Room. A Russell Group University, a center of world-leading research and a pioneer of social mobility. Wall mural, Grad cafe&nbsp; In 2023, I was commissioned by Queen Mary University of London to create a mural for their new Graduate Café. The café wanted to celebrate its partnership with Paddy and Scotts, their coffee supplier, which aims to challenge traditional supply chains in the coffee industry and invest in coffee-growing communities in Kenya. Chez Roux draws inspiration from Chef Michel Roux’s childhood memories of growing up at Fairlawne estate in the 1960s, where his father, Albert Roux OBE, served as a private chef for the Cazalet family. The menu of simple but refined dishes pays homage to the past while offering a contemporary dining experience. Situated in the beautifully opulent Palm Court, this is Roux's first permanent home since the closure of Le Gavroche. Visual Identity | Menus | Restaurant stationary | Bespoke illustrations In 2024, I was commissioned to create a series of assets to communicate the story of Chez Roux. Drawing inspiration from Fairlawne estate, the visual identity centers around the house motif. The identity is integrated across menus, coasters, tray liners, packaging, and artworks. Subsequently working across all aspects of the organisation's visual identity – including packaging, print graphics, merchandise, website design, digital, signage, wayfinding and large scale event graphics. A range of animated graphics were created for a live performance at London's Village Underground. Each menu page was illustrated by hand with reference to a core ingredient and Bunad textile pattern. ‘Bunad’ is a term used to describe traditional Norwegian dress, usually dating from the 18th or 19th centuries. There are many regional variations to the intricate patterns – these variations were used to reference the locality of ingredients used.
